Filtration with Ceramic Foam Filter

Filtration with Ceramic Foam Filter

The filtration with ceramic foam filter has a number of key advantages that can improve the quality of high-quality aluminum castings. These include:

  • Machined to tight dimensional tolerances
  • Excellent strength and thermal properties
  • Resistant to molten aluminium attack
  • Available in various sizes and grades
  • Reduced scrap
  • Better surface finish of castings
  • Increased metal quality

Foam ceramic is a new type of industrial ceramic product with low bulk density (0.25~0.65) g/cm3, high porosity (60%~90%), and three-dimensional network structure. Due to its excellent properties such as high temperature resistance, strong chemical corrosion resistance, high porosity, and large surface area, foam ceramics are widely used in metal melt filtration to remove undesirable non-metallic inclusions in the melt.

Why Choose Ceramic Foam Filter?

The existence of non-metallic inclusions is not conducive to the production of high-quality castings. In the presence of inclusions and oxide scale, mechanical properties are easily lost. The mechanical properties of high-strength aluminum alloys are very sensitive to defects in castings.

The molten aluminum filtration with ceramic foam filter can effectively reduce the level of inclusions and the subsequent notch effect caused by inclusions.

AdTech uses the concept of ceramic foam structure as the filter medium, and our quality is the best. We offer filters in sizes from 7″ to 26″ and all common porosities between PPI 10 and 70.

The ceramic foam filter can be made by a specific procedure, with unique bone frame holes, just like the foam shape (called three-dimensional communication channels) and countless holes that can only be found in a magnification microscope.

Ceramic foam filters for foundry are mainly used to filter aluminum and aluminum alloys. With their excellent resistance to molten aluminum erosion and corrosion, they can effectively remove inclusions, reduce trapped gas and provide laminar flow, so that the filtered metal is cleaner. Cleaner metals will produce higher quality castings, less scrap and fewer inclusion defects, all of which help increase profits.
